Nationwide Children’s Hospital Laboratory Services
In January of 2026 I had the pleasure of meeting Edward Firgau II, Nationwide Children's Lab QA/Student Coordinator, and having the opportunity to tour through and observe various tasks that take place in an array of NCH labs. I spent a total of 7 hours over the course of 2 days learning about the different types of laboratory services NCH offers and what they entail. I am beyond grateful for this experience as it has spiked my interest in pursuing a Medical Lab Scientist degree and potentially pursuing a lab-related career.
Pictured above is an image displaying all of the laboratory science categories. My personal favorites were hematology, anatomic pathology, and molecular microbiology/virology. It was fascinating to see the testing procedures in action as well as learn about the technology used.
